Newport Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre - closure update

We will now be able to re-open the pool and gym at Newport from Thursday 22 July 2021. We will be opening for the reduced opening hours below. The programme will remain unaffected during these times:

  • Thursday 22 July 2021 and Friday 23 July 2021 - 12noon to 8pm
  • Saturday 24 July 2021 and Sunday 25 July 2021 - 7.30am to 3.30pm.

Opening hours will revert back to normal from Monday 26 July 2021.

Horsehay customer notice

Friday 30 July 2021 new ICT infrastructure is being installed in our Aspirations Gym at Horsehay.

This will mean that on the morning of Friday 30 July 2021 some of the current cardio equipment at Horsehay only will be out of use while the new infrastructure is being installed inside the gym.

This is an exciting step towards us being able to install the brand new innovative PulseMove gym equipment which will help gym users track their fitness goals more accurately like distance, speed, heartrate and even create personalised workout plans.

Thank you in advance for your patience – and as always please feel free to use any of our other Aspirations Gyms during this time. We will make an update after the work has been completed.


Important information for all leisure customers

No card payments or online booking facilities on 26 July 2021 (6pm – 10pm) or 28 July 2021 (8pm – 10pm).

During the following dates and times customers will be unable to make any online bookings via our website or make card payments at our leisure centres due to ICT upgrades taking place.

This will mean that any non-direct debit customers will need to pay by cash only.

  • Monday 26 July 2021 - 6pm - 10pm.
  • Thursday 28 July 2021 - 8pm - 10pm.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs

From the 19 July 2021 in line with Government guidance Telford & Wrekin Leisure will be making some changes across our facilities.

Please note:

  • booking in advance is no longer essential and no longer be available for swimming sessions
  • swimming lessons (including under 5s and our disability programme) will resume
  • we expect and encourage our customers and staff to use face masks in the open areas as they do now – apart from when exercising
  • all of our centres will go back to pre-covid capacities. This includes gyms, swimming and fitness classes
  • health suites will be back in normal use with no additional restrictions.

The safety of all our customers and staff remains our priority and we will be maintaining our enhanced cleaning schedules, providing hand sanitizer, retaining reception screens, reviewing programmes and encouraging users to wear face coverings in communal areas. Track and Trace QR posters will continue to be provided and customers are encouraged to scan in on arrival.

Safety in our facilities
 

The safety of all our customers and staff remains our priority and we will be maintaining our enhanced cleaning schedules, providing hand sanitizer, retaining reception screens and reviewing programmes. We expect and will encourage our customers to wear face masks in open communal areas and Track and Trace QR posters will continue to be provided and customers are encouraged to scan in on arrival.

We will be notified of any outbreaks and respond accordingly. Customers testing positive for the virus or self-isolating will not be permitted to use the facilities.

We all have a responsibility to keep our facilities safe for use. This includes not attending if you or a member of your household displays any symptoms of Covid-19. Please remember to use hand sanitizer stations and clean your equipment down where required. Gym towels are permitted but not to be sued to clean any of the equipment.


Your Aspirations Membership
 

Your end date will be extended to cover the period it we were closed for.

You can keep your membership frozen if you are not ready to return, however if you would like to cancel the easiest and quickest way to do this is through our online portal you will need your DFC reference number. This is listed on your bank statement or on your joining email. The link to this is also available on our website. You will just need to select ‘make a change to your membership’ If you do not have access to the internet you can give any of our centres a call and they will be able to help you.


The Gym
 

It will no longer be essential for customers to book in advance for all activities.

Yes, our Personal Trainer will be able to provide safe and dedicated training session for their clients in our gym facilities.


Fitness classes
 

Our Fitness classes will go back to pre-covid capacities and they will revert back to being delivered in the relevant studios.

Slots can be booked online or over the phone a maximum of 3 days in advance, all slots become available from 7am each day.

We would encourage members to cancel pre-booked classes if they cannot attend, this will permit another member to book onto that class. This can be done by accessing the online booking portal or by contacting the leisure centre by phone. For pay as you go customers, our usual cancellation policy applies (minimum 24 hours notice) and refunds can be received by phoning the centre and cancelling.

We would ask that all members give 24 hours-notice for cancellations.

Members can book multiple classes throughout the week within the booking period.

We will be retaining the 15 minutes gap between each fitness class to allow for cleaning and to help with customer flow. We are also encouraging all customers to continue bringing their own mats where possible.


Swimming
 

It will no longer be essential for customers to book in advance for all activities and booking will no longer be available for swimming.

Swimming pools will return to pre-covid capacities and all swimming lessons (including under 5s and our disability programme) will resume.

Spectators will be allowed to return, we expect and will encourage our customers to wear face masks in open communal areas.


Block Bookings, Sports Clubs and Birthday Parties
 

All customers, clubs and groups with block bookings will be contacted individually to discuss their return in line with the Governments road map from Lockdown.

We are requesting that customers wishing to book our 3G pitches on a casual pay as you play basis contact the sites direct to facilitate the bookings .

At present we are unable to confirm when we will be able to resume Birthday Parties.

Telford Ice Rink  

We are delighted to announce that from Monday19 July 2021 in line with Government guidance on lifting restrictions Telford & Wrekin will be making some changes across its leisure sites.

Telford Ice Rink will return to normal capacity levels with, no additional restrictions, spectators will also be allowed to return.

The safety of all our customers and staff remains our priority and we will be maintaining our enhanced cleaning schedules, providing hand sanitizer, retaining reception screens, reviewing our programme and we will continue to display and provide the Track and Trace QR posters, customers are encouraged to scan in on arrival.

We also expect and will encourage our customers to wear face masks in open communal areas.

There will no longer be any restrictions to our public, patch and club related sessions.

It is not essential for customers to book in advance for all their sessions, however in order to guarantee a slot on the Ice we do encourage customers to continue to book their sessions in advance.

We will be looking to re-introduce our popular tots on ice sessions and we will keep you updated on a start date for these.

Public, Patch and club sessions can be booked online.  

If you are not ready to return just yet though, that’s not a problem. If you would like to remain frozen you will need to refreeze your membership.  If you are a direct debit customer the easiest and quickest way to do this is through our online portal you will need your DFC reference number. This is listed on your bank statement or on your joining email. We will also be writing to all our members with further details of their membership including their DFC reference number. You will just need to select ‘make a change to your membership’ If you do not have access to the internet you can give any of our Centre’s a call and they will be able to help you.

We can now look to re-start all our remaining Skate4life lessons including penguins. Rink staff will be contacting customers confirming dates, classes and times shortly.

Please note: that anyone feeling unwell with symptoms potentially associated with the COVID-19 virus should not attend the site under any circumstances.

All skaters are encouraged to sanitize their hands before and after the sessions.

All Skaters are encouraged to continue skating around continuously in and anti-clockwise direction at all times in a safe manner.

All Skaters must refrain from congregating in groups in the middle of the ice, standing still in and around the Ice Pad barriers and must follow the guidance and instructions from rink staff whilst adhering to signage and information displayed.

Before pushing off to skate check to see if a quicker skater is approaching and if so give way. Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath whilst skating, please be mindful that others skaters are using the ice pad  and will want to keep on skating without stopping; so keep yourself to the edge of the pad allowing others to skate by.

People of different skating standards and abilities will use the Ice Rink. Please respect their right to enjoy their skating session.

You are respectfully requested to adhere to these conditions at all times, as the process may be monitored to ensure we are complying with the restrictions.

Anyone not abiding by these guidelines may be asked to leave the facility and future bookings not permitted.

Telford Tennis Centre

We are delighted to announce that from Tuesday 1 June 2021 Telford Tennis Centre will be reopening its doors for indoor and outdoor Tennis.

Please see below some key information for the re-opening.

What are the opening times for the Tennis Centre?

The Tennis Centre will open 9am – 10pm Monday to Friday and 9am-7pm on a Saturday and Sunday.


Will I need to book my courts in advance?

We are encouraging customers to pre-book and pay for their indoor / outdoor courts in advance of turning up this will ensure you are guaranteed a court.

If customers do turn up and we have courts available they are asked to book in at the Main Oakengates Leisure Centre Reception.

Those customers who wish to book their courts in advance can be made through online or if you do not have access to the internet you can make a booking by calling 01952 382810 or in person at Oakengates Leisure Centre.


Why are we being encouraged to book courts in advance?

Booking the courts will guarantee your space and prevent wasted visits.


How far ahead can I book the courts?

Courts can be booked online or over the phone a maximum of 5 days in advance.


How much will it cost to book the indoor / outdoor courts?

The pricing for the courts are: £10 per indoor court and £5 per outdoor court, this offer will run until September 2021.


Do we need to register at the Main Oakengates Leisure Centre before we go down to the Tennis Centre?

If you have pre-booked courts in advance then customers can just head straight down to the Tennis Centre and don’t need to register at the Main Leisure Centre Reception.


Can we hire equipment rackets and balls?

Yes you can hire a racket and ball for £5 returnable deposit, these can be collected from the main Oakengates Leisure Centre reception before you go down to the courts.

We would encourage customers to cancel pre-booked courts if they cannot attend, this will permit other people to book courts if available. This can be done by accessing the online booking portal or by contacting the leisure Centre by phone. Do you provide tennis coaching?

A comprehensive lesson and coaching programme will be available from June 1 2021. Visit the we do tennis webiste for more information.

Anyone interested in providing tennis coaching at the Tennis Centre must be agreed in advance with Telford & Wrekin Leisure Services.


Safety in our facilities

What is in place to make my visit safe?

We have implemented a number of measures to make sure your visit is both safe and enjoyable. We encourage all our customers to pre-book their courts, you will find hand sanitizer stations and a number of other measures have been implemented to keep you and our staff safe.


What if someone who used the facilities tests positive for the virus?

We will be notified of any outbreaks and respond accordingly. Customers testing positive for the virus or self-isolating will not be permitted to use the facilities. 


Should I wear a mask to the tennis centre?

There is no requirement to wear a mask whilst playing indoor tennis however staff and customers must wear a mask at all other times in and around our facilities unless medically exempt.


How can I help to keep the facility safe?

We all have a responsibility to keep our facilities safe for use. This includes not attending if you or a member of your household displays any symptoms of COVID-19. Whilst you are here please observe directional signage and social distancing guidelines. There may be some queues to enter buildings, please be patient with us we will be trying to facilitate your access as quickly and safely as possible.
