Swimming - COVID-19 updates

Important information

Anyone feeling unwell with symptoms potentially associated with the COVID-19 virus should NOT attend the site under any circumstances.

You are respectfully requested to adhere to these conditions at all times, as the process may be monitored to ensure we are complying with the restrictions.

Anyone not abiding by these guidelines may be asked to leave the facility and future bookings not permitted.

Initially our timetables (see below) will look a little different to previously and we will be carefully managing the number of people in the swimming pool at any one time to provide you with an enjoyable and safe swim. You can help us by taking a few moments to read the below information relating to swimming bookings to ensure you are choosing the correct option for yourself.

Our timetables will have 4 distinct sessions:

  • family swimming -  no lanes in pool, the whole pool is for recreational swimming
  • public swimming - part of the pool has lanes and part is for recreational swimming
  • lane swimming - all of the pool has lanes
  • aquafit - usual class but with less participants and no equipment.

Where customers want to swim in a lane during Public Swimming sessions they must choose this option when booking.  Where swimmers have booked a lane swim they must stay in the lane and not swim in the open part of the pool.  Equally swimmers who have booked a public swim must not enter the lanes.  This is so we can manage the numbers in our pools and provide you with a safe swim.

Before you arrive

Please be aware of the following information before you arrive to swim:

  • only swimmers who have pre-booked will be permitted entrance to the centre. Where an adult is accompanying a child and spectating this is limited to one adult per child
  • please have your proof of booking ready to show staff  - we will need to see this before we can let you in
  • please arrive with your swimming costume on underneath your clothing – it is important that you minimise the amount of time spent in the changing rooms
  • showers will be available pre-swim but please shower at home wherever possible.
  • make sure you have got a 20p coin for your locker – we will not be able to give you change from our reception desks
  • if you usually take a water bottle into the pool hall please make sure you have filled it up at home  - there will not be water fountain facilities available
  • if you need equipment such as floats or aids please bring these along with you -  we will not be able to loan out any equipment.

During your swim

  • You must observe social distancing and keep 2 metres apart during your swim or class.
  • Where swimmers have booked a lane swim they must stay in the lane and not swim in the open part of the pool. Equally swimmers who have booked a public swim must not enter the lanes. This is so we can manage the numbers in our pools and provide you with a safe swim.
  • When swimming in a lane please observe the directional signage and do not overtake other swimmers. Before pushing off check to see if a quicker swimmer is approaching and if so give way. Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath after completing your swim, please be mindful that others using the lane will want to keep on swimming without stopping; so keep yourself to the edge of the lane allowing others to turn at the wall, turning head away and allowing others to maintain social distancing measures
  • wide strokes such as butterfly are not permitted at the moment
  • people of different standards and abilities will use the pool. Please respect their right to enjoy their swim
  • do not make physical contact with other participants.

After your swim

  • Please leave the pool promptly when asked to do so by staff at the end of the session.
  • It is important to minimise time spent in the changing room so please shower at home wherever possible. Where you do need to use shower facilities please only take the time needed to rinse the chlorinated water from your hair and body.
  • Please dry yourself and dress promptly and leave the facility following any directional signage. Vanity units and hair dryers will not be available.
