We are asking that staff assist by reminding customers to wear face coverings. There are exemptions to who has to wear a face covering:

  • children under the age of 11 (Public Health England do not recommended face coverings for children under the age of 3 for health and safety reasons)
  • people who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability
  • where putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress
  • avoid harm or injury, or the risk of harm or injury, to yourself or others - including if it would negatively impact on your ability to exercise or participate in a strenuous activity.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs - swimming

Swimming lessons for all children aged 5 and over will recommence from Monday 14 September 2020. Due to social distancing rules it is not possible to have teaching assistants or instructors in the water. Due to this we are not able to offer swimming lessons for under 5’s at this time. Children will be in reduced size classes to promote social distancing and will receive a swimming lesson every fortnight so that we can offer a place to all existing swimmers. Swimmers will be allocated to either week 1 or week 2. We will be operating with these arrangements for the remainder of the year and will reassess for 2021.

Unfortunately, the current Government guidance does not permit the opening of Jacuzzis and due to social distancing measures only one person at a time would be able to use the Sauna or Steam Room.

Strict control measures have been put in place to ensure our swimming pools comply with the Government and Swim England guidance.

Social distancing rules require us to proactively manage the number of participants at all times and record users of the facility. Booking activities will enable this and guarantee your space and prevent wasted visits.

A small number of activities do not lend themselves to social distancing or other guidelines and as such have not been included within the current programme. We will keep this situation under review in line with any changes to the guidance.

Customers are being asked to come ‘activity ready’, please have your swimming costume on underneath your clothing.

In accordance with the guidance we will be encouraging swimmers to spend as little time in the changing rooms as possible. Showers will be available for customers to wash off the chlorine only. Swimmers are encouraged to shower before arriving and at home afterwards. Facilities such as the hairdryers will not be available for use.

Lockers will be available in the changing rooms for swimmers and the small valuable lockers will be available for health & fitness users. For other activities customers will have to take any belongings with them. Coming ‘activity ready’ should reduce the amount of personal belongings. Make sure you have got a 20p coin for your locker – we will not be able to give you change from our reception desks.

Showers will be available for customers to wash off the chlorine. Swimmers are encouraged to shower before arriving and at home afterwards.

A maximum of one spectator per family is permitted. The spectator must be from the same household as one of the participants.

All swimming sessions have a maximum capacity, this varies according to the type of session. Double width lanes will be provided each of which can accommodate a maximum of 8 swimmers at any time.

Customers are asked to be respectful of other users. Whilst overtaking is not permitted we would ask swimmers to permit those swimming more quickly to safely pass them at the end of a length.

All swimming sessions have a maximum capacity, which varies according to the type of session. Customers will be asked to be mindful of each other and the social distancing rules and this will be managed by the lifeguards as with any other rule.

We would encourage members to cancel pre booked activities if they cannot attend, this will permit another member to book onto that activity. This can be done by accessing the online booking portal or by contacting the leisure centre by phone. For pay as you go customers, our usual cancellation policy applies (minimum 24 hours-notice) and refunds can be received by phoning the centre and cancelling.

We would ask that all members give 24 hours-notice for cancellations.
