Stage 5

Now that your child has developed many of the primary skills to moving in the water, the next stages will begin to develop and push their abilities further.

Stage 5 — which will see your child swim four different strokes and perform advanced skills underwater — will reaffirm your child’s enjoyment in the water.

It seems like a long time since they took their first dip with the Ducklings!  

Stage 5 achievements

Before moving onto Stage 6, the swimmers will be able to:

  • perform a horizontal stationary scull on the back
  • perform a feet first sculling action for 5 metres whilst horizontal on the back
  • perform a sculling sequence with a partner for 30 - 45 seconds to include a rotation
  • tread water for 30 seconds
  • perform three different shaped jumps into deep water
  • swim 10 metres Backstroke, Front Crawl face in the water, Breaststroke and Butterfly (to ASA standard)
  • perform a handstand and hold for a minimum of three seconds
  • perform a forward somersault, tucked, in the water
  • demonstrate an action for getting help
  • swim 50 metres choice of stroke is optional.
