Customer notice: Face Coverings

From Thursday 24 September 2020 we are asking our customers to wear face coverings in our centres at all times other than when actually taking part in physical activity.

We are asking that staff assist by reminding customers to wear face coverings. There are exemptions to who has to wear a face covering:

  • children under the age of 11 (Public Health England do not recommended face coverings for children under the age of 3 for health and safety reasons)
  • people who cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability
  • where putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress
  • avoid harm or injury, or the risk of harm or injury, to yourself or others - including if it would negatively impact on your ability to exercise or participate in a strenuous activity.

Your questions for when we re-open Telford Ice Rink

Customers wishing to visit Telford Ice Rink must pre book and pay for all activities online or over the phone.

Only customers who have pre-booked will be permitted entrance to the Ice Rink. Where an adult is acting in a caring capacity and assisting this is limited to one adult per customer.

Please have your proof of booking ready to show staff  - we will need to see this before we can let you in.

Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before your session. There will be a queue outside the front entrance

If I am shielding or in a vulnerable group (over 70) am I able to use Telford Ice Rink?

Use of the facilities is a matter of personal choice. The Government has stated its intention to end Shielding from 1 August 2020.


What is in place to make my visit safe?

We have implemented a number of measures to make sure your visit is both safe and enjoyable. All our activities are offered on a pre-booked only basis to ensure we are managing the number of people attending at any one time and allowing for social distancing. At Telford Ice Rink you will find hand sanitizer stations, cleaning stations and one way routes. All of these measures have been implemented to keep you and our staff safe.


What if someone who used Telford Ice Rink tests positive for the virus?

We will be notified of any outbreaks and respond accordingly. Customers testing positive for the virus or self-isolating will not be permitted to use the facilities.  


Should I wear a mask to Council leisure facilities?

From Thursday 24 September 2020 we are asking our customers to wear face coverings in our centres at all times other than when actually taking part in physical activity. 


Should I wear gloves to Council leisure facilities?

Gloves are not permitted to be worn by customers in the facility. 


How can I help to keep the facility safe?

We all have a responsibility to keep Telford Ice Rink safe for use. This includes not attending if you or a member of your household displays any symptoms of Covid-19. Whilst you are here please observe directional signage and social distancing guidelines. There may be some queues to enter buildings, please be patient with us we will be trying to facilitate your access as quickly and safely as possible. Please remember to use hand sanitizer stations. When leaving please follow the one way signage where applicable.

How do I enter the building once I have booked a session?

Customers will be asked to wait outside the main entrance at a safe distance from the doors, which will be clearly marked. The team will welcome customers into the building who have pre booked onto the session, please follow the one way system from reception to book hire and maintain social distancing at all times.


How do I hire my skates?

Follow the one way system into the Boot Hire area of Telford Ice Rink, and queue as directed to hire your skates.


Are you offering skate hire?

We are offering skate hire at Telford Ice Rink. We will sanitise all skates prior to issuing and we will ask you to return the skates to a designated return point which will be clearly marked.

We will not be taking your shoes from you, lockers are available for your use at £1 - please bring a £1 coin with you.


Are you offering skating aids?

Yes. We will have a reduced amount of skating aids available and we advise you to pre book and pay for this when you book online or over the phone. All skating aids will be sanitised prior to use.


How will I get on and off the ice?

Customers will need to observe the one way routes to enter and exit off the ice pad.


How do you maintain social distancing on the ice?

The capacity for each skating session has been reduced to enable social distancing on the ice pad. We are encouraging customers to skate around the ice pad in an anti clockwise direction and avoid gathering in groups. A member of staff will be supervising the ice pad at all times.


Can spectators attend?

A maximum of one adult spectator per family is permitted. The spectator must be from the same household as one of the participants.


Will Café Go be open for food and refreshments?

No, Café Go will unfortunately remain closed at the moment. The vending machines will also be out of use, if you require a drink during your skating session, please bring your own.


Where can I find the new skating times?

We have amended the programme to enable safe social distancing, there are now more frequent sessions for 60 minutes at a time. Download the timetable for the Ice Rink.


Have you amended the prices for ice skating sessions?

Yes, public skating prices have been reduced to reflect the shorter session times. 


Why are the sessions shorter in length?

Government guidance has issued advice around safe skating, this involves limiting capacities on the ice pad as such we have increased the number of individual sessions within the programme to give everyone a chance to skate.

How do I book my patch session?

You will need to pre book and pay in advance for all patch sessions. You can do this on our online booking.


What do I have to do to re-start my membership?

Nothing. We will automatically resume skating memberships, you will be able to pre-book a patch slot from Monday 27 July 2020. If you do not want your skating membership to automatically resume, please email direct.debitadministrator@telford.gov.uk.


Are you reducing patch capacity?

Due to the reduced capacity allowed on both Patch and skating club sessions booking slots will be provided in 30 minute sessions

Members will be able to book 7 days in advance, it’s advised that they only book a maximum of 60 minutes (2 x 30 minute sessions) during each Patch or Skating Club block to allow other skaters the opportunity to access the Ice.

None members will be restricted to 5 days advanced booking only.


How do I enter the building once I have booked onto patch?

Customers will be asked to wait outside the main entrance at a safe distance from the doors, which will be clearly marked. The team will welcome customers into the building and complete a patch register, please follow the one way system from reception to boot hire and maintain social distancing at all times.


Can I change for my patch session at Telford Ice Rink?

No, please come rink ready and changed for your patch session.


How will I get on and off the ice?

Customers will need to observe the one way routes to enter and exit off the ice pad.


Are the session times for patch the same?

Patch sessions will be:

  • Monday – Friday 8am - 10am
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons 3pm - 5pm
  • Saturday and Sunday mornings 7am - 9am.

When are lessons starting again?

Telford Ice Rink is working towards a lesson start date of Saturday 8 August 2020 to resume skate UK lessons from level 1 onwards, the team will contact customers who are on the existing programme to ascertain if they would like to resume their lessons.

Not starting on the 8 August 2020 will be Penguins, we hope to re-start this part of the programme at a later date, those customers enrolled and part ay through the current course will be credited for when we start the penguin programme back up.

When will Ice Hockey start again?

There is currently no date for Ice Hockey to resume, we are awaiting dates and confirmation of this from the governing body.


What about clubs re-starting?

Telford Ice Rink is working with the clubs to facilitate their return to the rink once the Governing body has agreed Ice Hockey clubs to return.

Will Soft Play be opening?

Soft Play will stay closed at the moment in accordance with Government guidance.
